Why This Onggi Class

where traditional technique, sensibility, and process come together

Small Group,

With a maximum of six participants,
this class is led in an intimate setting


A master potter with 40 years of experience guides each student closely, adjusting the instruction to individual pace, and understanding

A World-Class Ceramic Technique

Onggi is a ceramic tradition capable of forming large, thin vessels with remarkable speed


In this class, you learn the structure and principles of traditional Korean Onggi forming
through both hand and body

Learning the Foundations of Korean Ceramics

​While making Onggi,
we explore the history and aesthetics of Korean ceramics, along with the attitude and philosophy
required to work with clay

We mainly teach how to make pottery using the Jeolla-do pottery technique,

one of the traditional Korean pottery techniques

 

Classes are held 8 times a month, each session lasting 3 hours

In the first four episodes, you learn the technique of making a clay slab, From the 5th to the 8th sessions,

we learn how to make jars using hand-made clay slab by pounding them with a wheelbarrow and paddle

Tools

In addition, training on making three types of pottery tools (cart, drawbridge, and bat) is provided

outside of class time only to those who apply to purchase the tools

This tool is made to fit the individual's body type and is owned by the applicant

It was my first time, but thanks to the calm and clear guidance, I was able to naturally follow the flow of Onggi. It was a class where even the time itself became a learning experience
